STUDENT OF THE MONTH:  Charlee
Charlee is a great listener, respectful and always thoughtful.  Charlee’s favorite food is pineapple, favorite color is pink and she has a dog.  Her favorite thing to do is play on the playground.  Charlee’s favorite book is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star!
She would like to learn more about cats.  When she grows up she would like to be a teacher.

READING:
Our big book is Zoo Borns.  We are learning about different kinds of animals.  We will be discovering how animals are the same or different.
LETTERS:  Uu. Flippy Dolphin Beanie will help us flip from short /u/ or long /u/ (using the magic e rule) when we are reading a word
SIGHT WORDS:  for & have
VOCABULARY: behavior & appearance
CATEGORY WORDS:  animal parts

WRITING:  We are reading different books to give children an understanding of a small moment so we can then start writing our own.  Journals from March come home on Friday!

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:  We made our winter trip to the butterfly garden to investigate what it is like in the winter season.  The children found many flowers still had stems with seeds attached.  We talked about the importance of those seeds for birds and animals for food during the winter and also for the seeds to fall and produce flowers in the spring if it was a perennial flower.

We are also learning about things that are living or non-living and what living things need.

MATH: We played a game called “what’s my rule”—I had certain children with something the same (boys or girls, boots, buttons on their shirts, etc.) to come forward and the children had to guess what was the same (or the rule).  They were great at looking for similarities!!!
We also are working on addition and subtraction and continuing to look at 3D shapes.

Parents:  Would you rather have newsletters emailed, on paper or both?  I will attach this to an email if you would give me some feedback!  I’m aware of one that has no email so I will continue to send paper to them!  I always add them to my blog on mcbain.org under teacher pages.

Thanks for your help!

Have a fun and safe Spring Break!
Melissa
