Spanish version...

More December news...

December is quickly moving!  Here is an update for the last week of school before Christmas break!

We are working on the letter C.  Our new sight words are IS and LIKE.  I hope they are reading their books from their book bag every day!  Practicing sight words is very helpful!

I am attaching a number line.  We were introduced to them this week and I have a number of them so wanted to share with the children.  Please review the numbers (starting with the gray side) our activities with them are to place an object on one number and a different object on a number 2 away (like a penny on a 6 and a quarter on the 8) then ask what number is BETWEEN the 6 and 8.  Or place a penny on a number and ask what is BEFORE or AFTER that number.  These can also be used as number recognition…ask your child to point to the number 3, etc!

Next week Tuesday is our Christmas party in the afternoon.  We have music until 1:40.  When we return to the room we will eat and open presents.  If you have signed up to volunteer, feel free to arrive about 1:30.  Each child brings a gift (spend no more than 3.00-3.50) boys buy a boy gift, girls buy a girl gift.  Please have the gifts here by Monday.

Wednesday we are having pajama day!  Children can either wear or bring their PJ’s to school with a SMALL stuffed animal.  PLEASE have their tennis shoes as we have gym that morning!!  They can bring slippers if they wish. If your child chooses to wear their PJ’s to school, please have a set of clothes in their backpack!

Thanksgiving festivities

The week of Thanksgiving we will be reading the book STONE SOUP.  In celebration of Friendship and Thanksgiving, we will be making Stone Soup together.  We will peel and cut up the vegetables on Tuesday, November 22 and then eat our soup together on Wednesday, November 23 as part of our Thanksgiving celebration.  Also, as in the story of Stone Soup everyone in Kindergarten will bring an item to contribute to our soup and work together to create a delicious meal.

The item our class is bringing is a carrot. Each child should bring one carrot to class by Monday, November 20.

We do need some more tribeads. Can you help with these?
Thank you for coming to conferences!  I enjoyed talking to you all!
We are now doing a letter a week.  We begin to work on the sound of the letter, how the letter is written and we will look at words that begin with that letter as well as words that have the letter in it and at the end!
We are also beginning to learn sight words.  So far we have read I, see and a.  I gave you some sight word books to take home.  These are very important homework books for your child!  Keeping them in one spot would be very helpful for reading at night.  Get a shoe box or other small box, maybe a Ziplock bag or cutting a cereal box down  will give your child a book box of their own to keep these special books in!  We are learning a lot now and homework help at home will be very helpful!   Math homework
goes home almost every night.  Please take a few minutes and review it with your child.  We are now writing numbers 1-5.
Please refrain from sending candy and gum to school. We cannot chew gum at school.
Mornings are chilly.  It’s a good idea to have mittens/gloves and a hat in their backpack!
We are near snow weather too!  PLEASE begin practicing with your child getting in and out of their snow clothes!  At school we start with snow pants, then boots, coat, hat and mittens are LAST!  That way they can try to zip their own coat! We don’t have much time to get in and out of outdoor clothing, so practicing ahead of time will help!
Thank you for remembering tennis shoes!!

We started working on the letter S this week.  We are learning the sound and how to write it as well as listening for words that begin and end with the letter S.
I hope the children are reading their sight word books every night to you.  There will be more to come this week!  Don't forget to fill out the BOOK IT calendar!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is just around the corner!  Our party is Monday October 31 from 8:45-10:30.  Our party is with the other Kindergarten classrooms in the Elementary cafeteria.

The children will be involved in some fun activities during that time including a story, crafts, games and donut decorating.

The children should bring (not wear) their costumes to school that day in a bag with their name on it.  We will help dress them at about 8:15 and plan to parade in the elementary hallway to the lunchroom at 8:45.  We are asking the children DO NOT bring any items to school (as part of their costume) that would appear to be a weapon such as knives, guns, swords or wands.

I am including a reminder note if you planned to donate something for our party or volunteered to help.  If you cannot make it please contact me as soon as possible.  If you find you can help us out and didn’t sign up earlier, please call!  Extra hands are always helpful! J

A reminder that there is NO school on Tuesday November 1, as teachers are in meetings for Professional Development.

We will begin a letter a week and learning sight words!  PLEASE practice these on a daily basis!  Our first letter is M.  We will learn the letter, sound and be practicing the correct way to write it.  Sight words are I, a, the, see and can.    I’ll keep you updated!

I hope the children have an opportunity to be read to or are reading to you every night!  This is extremely important for them!  Remember to turn in the OCTOBER BOOK-IT calendars on November 2!  Another one will come home that day!  HAPPY READING!

We have been busy kindergarteners!  We have worked on learning the numbers 1-9 and the poems that go with it to remind us how to write it.  We have investigated the pattern blocks, color bears and linking cubes.
The letters that we have worked on are M, J, A, D, T, B, R, Y, and G!
Our classroom has 11 Monarch chrysalis!  One butterfly emerged and we released it on Wednesday!
We have been talking about being kind to one another and learned a song called Share your love. This song speaks about how we are all different, but we can care for one another by being kind.
