December 10-14, 2018
DATES:
Dec. 17:  Delayed start
Dec. 19:  Wear your favorite Christmas sweater or shirt

Dec 21  ½ day, Sing along, PJ day

Our Christmas party is scheduled for December 20 in the morning as it is a half day.  Girls will bring a gift for a girl and boys a boy gift (between $3-$5). Please label the tag TO: a (girl or boy) FROM:  have your child write his/her name.  Please don’t specify a specific child on the tag.  We will play a game to see who gets what gift!
The children can begin to bring in their gifts any time!  Please have them to school by December 18!

READING:
Our story is Whose shoes?  A shoe for every job
We will be learned about tools different jobs need.
SIGHT WORDS:  you & on
LETTER:  Oo
VOCABULARY:  equipment & uniform
CATEGORY WORDS:  jobs

WRITING:  We continue to work on our journals daily.  Fun to see the growth as the weeks go by!  We will be working on pattern books—making one similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  We will call it Children, Children What do you see?

MATH:
We’ve played Monster Squeeze, been practicing reading numbers (especially the tricky teens!), building numbers using 10 frames to 20, and we built hexagons using trapezoids, triangles and rhombus shapes!

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are continuing to work on motion.  We are conducting an experiment on force by playing a bowling experiment with beach balls, us blowing through straws to knock over water bottles with a small amount of sand in the bottom.

Hope you all enjoyed the Christmas concert!  Rambler Review was there and you can find it on their Facebook page.  We watched it the next day!  Kids were so excited to see what the program was like –not to mention how cool to see themselves!!

We had a few things left over from our Thanksgiving activity.  Here is what was on the sign up sheet for our Christmas party that we could still use:

December 3-7, 2018


DATES:
Dec. 6. Kindergarten Christmas concert 6:00—Children to arrive at 5:45 and brought to the Multi Use room.  Mrs. Wheeler has asked the children to not wear sweat pants or jeans to the concert.
The children are SO excited for this concert!!!
Please note there are 2 home basketball games also on Thursday night as well as our concert at 6 and 1st grade at 7! Please bring your child through the auditorium doors to the Multi-use room(—we have gym there—the children should know where it is!)  When the concert is over, please only ONE parent come to the multi-use room to get them.  This may be a congested area as we will be picking up and 1st grade starting to arrive.  We are planning to have our kids in a line by class so when you arrive at the door we can call them forward to you.

Comprehension skills:  We are working on characters, setting of a story and events that happen in the story

Writing:  We have begun our December journals.  We hope you enjoyed reading through the November journals with your child.

We will be talking about pattern books then writing one of our own.

Social Studies & Science:
We are going to back to work on motion.  We will investigate motion on the playground.

Math:
Our math lessons will be on identifying and describing shapes using their attributes (thick, thin, small, large, etc.)

We will be doing a graph of our favorite colors and comparing with the other classes.
We are introducing the calculator app on the I pad.  We will also identifying the numbers 1-10 on a ten frame.

Please return all November calendars!  Even if you aren’t using the Pizza Hut coupon.  We’re encouraging reading!  They get to fill in a book on our chart when they return the calendars.  There are prizes in April for those that participate and read!!!

We are reading Clang! Clang!  Beep! Beep! Listen to the city.
It’s about noises we hear in our community.

Vocabulary:  listen & volume
Category words:  sound words
Sight words:  and & but
Letter: Nn. 

I am sending home the entire sight word list. Some children have asked! 
Please practice sight words daily!

WRITING:
We will finish up our November journals and they go home Friday!
Read through them with your child! 
We visited the butterfly garden and will be writing about what we saw in the fall.

MATH:
We are working on numbers, counting and will learn a new game called Monster Squeeze.  This game involves guessing a mystery number on the number line. 
We will look at shapes and be discussing their attributes (shape, size, thickness and color)

The children have made a countdown to Christmas chain—the last one being yellow for Christmas Day.  They made a green & red pattern for days 1-24.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
We finished up wants and needs and will be going back to motion.  We will be investigating gravity.

Thank you to everyone that sent in donations or helped with our stone soup celebration last week!  It was a huge success!  The children enjoyed all the activities and making and eating the food!!!

Student of the Month:
Leah
Leah is always doing her best and also helps her friends! 
Leah likes spaghetti and the color pink.  She likes to make a fox using
Leaves.  Leah has one pet named Tess.  Her goal this school year is to learn how to write.  Leah wants to be a farmer when she grows up.  Her favorite book is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!

Please keep sending shoes to school—or if it works better they can leave their shoes here.  The office has asked that children wear their snow gear to school to they can go directly to recess when they arrive at school.
