Let’s catch up!  I feel like January was lost!  We sure have had the weather!  And it looks like we’re not out of the woods yet!
Here’s what we did get through in January!

*We wrote Mrs. Isanhart a thank you for making all the kindergarteners a hat!

*Thank you for all who participated in the Holiday Homework!!!  The children were so excited to bring back their work!  I’ve given all who brought back the homework sheet a book!  I have had many books in the room we no longer need—some are brand new and want them to have a good home!!!

*Mid-January we welcomed Mrs. Feister to our classroom.  Mrs. Sikkema moved to a different position.
*We also welcomed Skylar to our room!
*Anabelle wrote us a letter from her new home in Minnesota.  The children have written her a note back!

*When we arrived back to school in 2019 we had review of the letters Ii, Nn, Cc, Oo & Dd—we also reviewed our first 15 sight words.

*We’ve been working on listening to stories and watching for details—character, setting, events, problems, solutions.

*We got started on RAZ kids ap—they LOVE IT!  You received their login information—it’s a free ap!  They have to listen to each story 2 times, then read it 2 times and take the quiz at the end. (the first level is only listen and read).  RAZ kids sends me a report every week so I can see who spends time on it and what areas of comprehension they need help with!

*MATH:  we are counting to 60 by 1’s, 100 by 5 & 10’s, looking at 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cone & rectangular prism). We have begun to look at addition (within 5 0r 10), and we are practicing writing numbers to 20

*SCIENCE:  We’ve been studying motion—steep and slope of ramps.  We went out on the slide and experienced the steep of a slide and how fast or slow things go.

*Then we moved on to the letter Hh and sight words my & at.

NOW—This week, we have begun the letter Ee and sight words are & had.
We are reading the book A Grand Old Tree.  Learning about the life cycle of a tree.
VOCABULARY WORDS:  develop & amazing
BEANIE BABY STRATEGIES:
Chunky Monkey (reading and writing words that end with en, et, ed, and ell –word families.  EX. ten, hen, wet, set, met,….)
Flippy the Dolphin—flipping the vowel sound when reading short or long vowel
Helpful Kangaroo:  Helpful reminds us to try to figure out a word that is tricky, but if we can’t it’s OK to ask for help if we’ve used all our strategies to try!

WRITING:
We’ve begun our February journals.  The children are now trying to write a complete sentence using sight words when possible!

MATH:  Monday February 11 will be our 100's day of school!  If the children want to, they may dress up as a 100 year old!  We will be doing some activities around counting to 100!  They also have gym on Monday!

SCIENCE:  We are finishing up with our study of motion.  I brought in my marble tracks—one was very difficult to put together but the other one they have had fun building it different ways!

DECEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH:  Adalyn—I’ve realized I did not do an end of December newsletter and have missed telling you about Adalyn!  All her fun information is at school and I’m home!  I will fill you in on her in next weeks news!

JANUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH:  Wyatt P.
Wyatt is a funny, kind and helpful boy who is willing to help his friends!  Wyatt likes the color blue, eating apples and going to the park for fun.  He is a Batman fan!!  His goal this year is to learn to write the alphabet letters.  When he grows up he wants to be a teacher!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:

*Remember to send in the Jump Rope for Heart coupons and money!

Feb 14 from 10-11 we will go to the big gym for our stations.  If you’d like to help, you may come to the classroom between 940-950.  We will leave the classroom at 9:50 to head to the big gym.  Please send your child to school that day in athletic clothing.  They should have shoes& socks for gym and can wear shorts but please have them wear sweat pants over for the ride to and from school.  Each child may have a water bottle for jumping, please write their name on it!
