Week of Feb 27 –March 3

DATES:
March begins reading month.  Our theme is Disney.
March 1—wear a Disney shirt
March 3—Mad Hatter hat day
March 10 Goofy dressing (mis-match clothing day)

March 24  Sleepy Dwarf day—PJ day!  Half day of school before spring break.

Last week was review week.  This week we begin with finishing our review week because of the snow day.

Please send in a small flashlight with fresh batteries for your child’s book box for the month of March.  Also a very small stuffed animal. We will have special reading times with each throughout the month of March.
March is the last month for Pizza Hut Book-it program.  Send in February on Wednesday.  March will come back after spring break. 

READING:

VOCABULARY:  appearance, behavior
We are reading about baby animals and their appearance and behaviors,

WRITING:
We are working on writing a small moment story.  Hoping to finish by the end of the week.

MATH:
Working on 3d shapes, counting by 2’s, 5,s, 10’s.  Introduced measuring and subtraction.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
Learning a bit about Abe Lincoln and George Washington in observance of President’s day.  Talking about dental health.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK:  Miguel    

Miguel likes to ride horses and his four wheeler and play video games.  His favorite movie is Jurassic World and favorite book is My Comic Book Bible.  He likes to eat pizza and quesadillas.  He wants to become a cop and get lots of horses.

Thank you for everything you did to help make out Valentine party successful!  The children did a great job writing on their Valentines!!!

STUDENT OF THE WEEK:  RaeLynn.
RaeLynn likes to race, paint things and play with her toys.  She likes to eat spaghetti and chili.  Her favorite movie is Zootopia and her favorite book is Sofia the First.  Her goal is to be good and to learn to write better.

READING:
Letter:  Kk and ending -ck
Sight words:  she & was
Vocabulary:  predict, weather

WRITING:  continue working on small moments.  We will begin working on individual stories.

The children have been introduced to RAZ KIDS on their ipads.  They have a note for you to explain how to get it at home as well as their passwords.  Please do not let siblings of the kindergartener use the account.  I can monitor your kindergarteners progress and we want it to be a good fit for them!

MATH:
We are learning about measuring.  We measured each child and they compared their height to things in the classroom.  We also made a pet graph.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
Being Valentine's week we talked about friendships and respecting each other.  We read Valentine books and are beginning to talk about presidents.


Other info:
I have a young friend who is playing hockey in Cadillac (1st grader!)--she has free tickets to try playing hockey to see if it is something your child may enjoy!  or you can go to TryHockeyForFree.com to register!  It is Saturday February 25.

SNOWPANTS: 
Please send children to school in snow gear ready to go outside for morning recess.  We have had some messing around in the hallway before school.  They get to their locker and hang up their backpack and scoot outside for a few minutes before school begins!

Week of February 6-10

This week we are reading about the four seasons.

VOCABULARY:  weather, seasons, spot, climate,
BEANIE BABY STRATEGY:  Skippy the frog:
Skippy tells us to skip a word we may not be able to figure out and read on then go back and reread.

WRITING:
We are working on small moments.  This week we will work on a class story about making Stone Soup.  We also wrote about what we would do on a snow day.

MATH:
We are working on shapes—2D and 3D.
We are working on building numbers 2+4=6, 5+1=6)
We are counting to 75 by 1’s, 20 by 2’s, 100 by 5’s and 10’s.
Friday we will celebrate our 100 days of school!

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
We were given an amaryllis bulb in January.  We planted it as a class and each day the leader of the day gets to water it.  It’s been amazing to watch how fast this plant grows!  Waiting for the flower to bloom!!
We also have an avocado pit we are waiting to see roots on!  It’s VERY slow!

STUDENT OF THE MONTH:  Natalia

Natalia is thoughtful, has a wild imagination.  She is an awesome friend to have!  Natalia likes pizza, chicken nuggets, eggs and salsa sopes.  Her favorite movie is Frozen and favorite book is Disney Princesses.  She wants to read big kid books with her brother and learn to tie her own shoes!







                                                    VALENTINE”S DAY PARTY:

Our party will be on February 14.  We will begin at 12:45 with passing out our Valentines, reading some books and watching a Valentine movie.  Then we have recess from 1:35-2 –at that time the 2 parent volunteers will help dish up treats and we will eat our treats after we return from recess.
