Fun to be fit
September 28: 1:30 is when the race begins!  Meet us up at the football field before 1:30! We will be on the track about in front of the press box.  All are welcome!!  You are welcome to take your child home after the race.  If you ordered a t-shirt they will be handed out on Thursday.  If you didn’t order a t-shirt the children can wear their gray Kindergarten shirt or a Rambler shirt.
OCTOBER 3:  STUDENT COUNT DAY
Friday, October 12:  Kindergarten progress reports go home.  We are on a different schedule than the rest of elementary!
Kindergarten will have report cards in November, February and May.  If you ever have any questions please call or email me!

If you ordered from the book club your order should arrive this week!

PLEASE remember shoes on Monday and Thursday! Children need sturdy gym shoes to be safe.

Please also send folders back to school emptied out every day!  The work the children do is important to them!  Take a look at it and read it with them!  It impresses to them that school is important to you and it’s a great review for your child!
The children received a book from me last week!  It is theirs to keep!  I had a couple that already had the books so I’ve ordered different ones—they should be here soon!

READING:
They have more books now from our reading series.  Please read and re read these books!  It puts sight words in to context and means more to them!

We are working on the letters Tt-Zz this week.  We will continue  listening to rhymes.  The children will be introduced to the Beanie Baby Lips the fish—it reminds them to look at the letters and think of the sound it makes.

WRITING:
We will begin to talk about small moment stories this week.  The children will also be working on capital and lower case letters when making words.  We will talk about our names having a capital first, but general words don’t have a capital letter unless in the beginning of a sentence.
As we continue to learn about being a scientist we will go out and draw and write about weather in our notebooks
We are continuing to draw and write in our journals daily.

MATH:
Our number hats  9& 10 are the focus this week.  We are working more on shapes –especially the triangle. We are practicing counting to 25 with our count and sit game!
We will also be using our dot cards to work on being able to see different quantities!  JACK HARTMAN SUBITIZING VIDEO is a favorite to help with this!

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES:
The first day of fall was this past weekend.  We will be talking about changes we are seeing.  We will also be talking about different kinds of weather and charting it every day.
The last of our butterflies are beginning to emerge.  I received tags from the conservation group so we are tagging the last 5 as we send them off to Mexico. 
Dr. Prissel (our Superintendent) came in this morning and the children taught him how to identify male and female Monarchs!

We continue to discuss school rules and how to feel good about school and doing the right thing!

STUDENT OF THE MONTH:
We have our first Student of the month!  Anabelle Strezishar.  Anabelle is quiet at work time and always does her best work!  Anabel wants to be a fairy, she likes pink and purple.  Her favorite food to eat is cake.  She has a cat and a dog at home.  Awesome Job, Anabelle!!!

We are working on the letters Nn-Ss this week.  We will be listening to rhymes.  The children will be introduced to the Beanie Baby Jabber the Reteller.  He reminds them to listen to the story to be able to recall and retell key details in a story.

WRITING:
We will be talking to a partner about things we know about and can do.  Once they’ve practiced talking to a partner about it they will draw it and write about it—remembering the key details!
We are continuing to draw and write in our journals daily.

MATH:
Our number hats from 6-9 are the focus this week.  We are working on shapes and making patterns and being able to extend a pattern. 
Wednesday morning we will be taking our NWEA (Computer assessment) Math version.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are continuing to learn about what a scientist is.  We were able to explore the butterfly garden last week.
We continue to discuss school rules and how to feel good about school and doing the right thing!

READING:
We have been busy this week working on the letters Gg-Mm, while also reviewing Aa-Ff.  Jack Hartman videos have helped us practice letter formation—important that they learn to start at the top and go to the bottom then left to right!

We have learned the sight words
I and can.

WRITING:
The children are practicing letter formations.  We are also writing/drawing every day we can in their journals!  We have practiced being a speaker and a listener.

SCIENCE:
We are talking about what a scientist is and what they might look like!  There are many kinds of scientists and they all don’t wear a white coat!
We have released 4 of our butterflies off to Mexico and have 5 more chrysalis to go!

We made our first journey to the butterfly garden on M66 (by the body shop).  Laura Quist from 4H/conservation was our speaker to talk about habitats and butterflies!  We used our senses (sight, listening, touching, smelling) to investigate the garden.  The children will draw something they learned at the garden and we will start a seasonal time line!  We will go back in the fall, winter and again before school lets out in May!

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Continue to talk about school rules and respecting each other.

MATH:
We have looked at the numbers 3-5, the number poems and made our number hats!
We graphed our birthdays and looked at the data!

We are working on counting to 100!  Jack Hartman has helped us!  He has exercising to 100, cowboy counting and zero the hero!

If you haven’t sent in a theme notebook (the ones with the spiral binding) please do on Monday or send in .25 and I will see they get one!  We are going to begin our science notebooks next week!

The children are coming home with their first sight word book!  Please read with them!  Reread!!!!  I asked the children to find a safe place to keep their books so they can reread all year!!!  Send in a cereal box and I can cut it for them to make a book box!!!

The lunch lady asked I remind parents to keep money in your child’s account!  Please send in with your child’s name on an envelope if possible!!! If they get too many charges it’s peanut
butter for lunch!  Also remember if you receive free or reduced lunch and send in a cold lunch you have to pay for milk unless you send in your own drink.  Pop is not allowed. 

Please remember gym shoes on Mondays and Thursdays.
