September 10-14, 2018
Ms. Thompson, Kindergarten

DATES:
September 17 is our first delayed start.  Children should arrive about 9:50.

Send in all fundraiser orders/money!

McBain technology has added a Rambler app for your phone!

READING:
We have been busy this week working on the letters Gg-Mm, while also reviewing Aa-Ff.  Jack Hartman videos have helped us practice letter formation—important that they learn to start at the top and go to the bottom then left to right!

We have learned the sight words
I and can.

WRITING:
The children are practicing letter formations.  We are also writing/drawing every day we can in their journals!  We have practiced being a speaker and a listener.

SCIENCE:
We are talking about what a scientist is and what they might look like!  There are many kinds of scientists and they all don’t wear a white coat!
We have released 4 of our butterflies off to Mexico and have 5 more chrysalis to go!

We made our first journey to the butterfly garden on M66 (by the body shop).  Laura Quist from 4H/conservation was our speaker to talk about habitats and butterflies!  We used our senses (sight, listening, touching, smelling) to investigate the garden.  The children will draw something they learned at the garden and we will start a seasonal time line!  We will go back in the fall, winter and again before school lets out in May!

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Continue to talk about school rules and respecting each other.

MATH:
We have looked at the numbers 3-5, the number poems and made our number hats!
We graphed our birthdays and looked at the data!

We are working on counting to 100!  Jack Hartman has helped us!  He has exercising to 100, cowboy counting and zero the hero!

If you haven’t sent in a theme notebook (the ones with the spiral binding) please do on Monday or send in .25 and I will see they get one!  We are going to begin our science notebooks next week!

The children are coming home with their first sight word book!  Please read with them!  Reread!!!!  I asked the children to find a safe place to keep their books so they can reread all year!!!  Send in a cereal box and I can cut it for them to make a book box!!!

The lunch lady asked I remind parents to keep money in your child’s account!  Please send in with your child’s name on an envelope if possible!!! If they get too many charges it’s peanut
butter for lunch!  Also remember if you receive free or reduced lunch and send in a cold lunch you have to pay for milk unless you send in your own drink.  Pop is not allowed.

Please remember gym shoes on Mondays and Thursdays.
Have a great weekend!
Melissa
