September 29, 2017

The past 2 weeks have been busy in Kindergarten!
We finished our quick journey through all 26-alphabet letters the last 3 weeks. This week we began our study of letters—we will be doing one letter a week for a while.

This week we investigated the letter Mm.  We learned that we always start our letters at the top and that lower case letters are smaller than upper case letters.  We have learned a few more aps on our Ipads that have to do with either reading or ABC’s.  We have learned I, can and the sight words.

Our book for this week is “What about Bear?”  We are talking about making new friends.

Beanies for this week are Questioning Owl (to remind us to ask questions about the stories as we read them) and Spinner Spider (who reminds us to make connections as we read stories)

Math:  We finished looking at numbers 0-10.  We have learned to look at dice dots, tally marks, dots on a ten frame, counting objects.
We are looking in to shapes—describing and sorting them as well as making patterns with them.

Science and Social studies:  we are looking in to the fall season.

Our character trait for September is KINDNESS.  We are talking about what it means and are watching videos and reading about it.  The boys and girls are trying very hard to earn their kindness token for their necklaces!

We have finished up most of our early assessments.  We will be sharing results with you soon and will be able to discuss our plans.  Progress reports are attached to this newsletter.  I have also included our upper and lower case letter assessment.  If the letter is highlighted in green it is a letter your child knows.  If it is white it is a letter that you and your child can practice.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
Every week I will feature one of our students in our class for student of the week!  This week it is Bryce:
Bryce is a lefty!  He likes milk and likes to collect Lego kits.
His favorite food is spaghetti!  Bryce wants to get good grades and be a football player.  His favorite movie is Boss Baby.

Thank you for all you do!  Reading to your child, making sure they are rested, making sure they have gym shoes, back packs and folders each day!  It all helps to have a child ready to learn!
