Week of October 3-7

COINS FOR KIDS:
Coins for kids (a team effort with Pizza Hut) is going on until the end of October.  The coins you have been donating will go towards an effort to help with literacy to inspire children to develop a love for reading!  So far we are in first place!  Thank you for your generous donations towards this project!  The children love bringing the coins in and dumping them in the orange bowl!

READING:
We begin this week with the letter Aa and sight word we.  Our big book is Pouch and the informational text we will read is Baby Animals on the Move.  We are learning to read using Beanie Babies Eagle eye (to remind us to look at the picture) and lips the fish (reminds us to sound out every word) .

WRITING:
Daily journals
We are talking about ‘small moments’.  This is something that has happened in their life that meant something to them.  First we are thinking about our moment, then we will share with the group or a partner and then next week we will begin to sketch our moment and will eventually add words.
To illustrate this we are doing a class book on how our Gingerbread Man got lost in school.

MATH:
We are counting, comparing quantities, doing simple adding and subtracting and practicing sorting.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:

We will begin talking about fire safety.  We will practice a fire drill and talk about doing one at home.
