Week of October 17-21

DATES TO REMEMBER:
October 25:  Picture retakes
October 21-31 Book Fair:
      We shop on October 21 (12:45-1:10)
       We buy books on October 26 (12:20-12:45)
October 31--Bat program with Mrs. Quist in the morning, Halloween parade and party in the afternoon.
November 1:  NO SCHOOL--Teachers have professional development
November 4:  report cards go home
November 10: 1/2 day and Parent/Teacher conferences
November 11: 1/2 day

READING:

We are learning about different tools and what they can do to help us every day!
Vocabulary words:  tools, discover
Category words:  color words

WRITING:
We will write in our journals every day.
We will also be continuing our work on small moments writing.  We will learn about verbs being an action word.  We will also be learning about stretchy snake beanie teaching us how to listen to each sound in a word and writing it as we hear it.
We will also be drawing and writing about a Jack-O-Lantern.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will read stories about spiders, bats and pumpkins.  We will learn about the lifecycle of the pumpkin.  Sophie brought in a huge pumpkin she grew in her garden.  Friday we will be voting on a Jack-o-Lantern face that we will carve

MATH:
We have a number of Halloween pieces (erasers and table scatter pieces) that we have been using to pattern, count and sort.
This week we will be learning to solve number stories, graphing pattern blocks and learning to interpret the information as well as learning to play Spill the Beans.  This game will teach us how to make ten different ways  (2+8, 3+7, 5+5, etc)

STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
Abigayl –She also goes by Abby!
Abby LOVES bugs and being outside!  She loves to swim!

Abby like to eat pizza.  Her favorite movie is Avatar.  Her favorite book is the Llama Llama collection of books! She was born in April.  She wants to be a mom and a bus driver. 


We would also like to welcome RaeLynn back to our class!!!!
