Winter! Well --looks like it’s here! Please remember to send children to school with their snow gear on as they put their backpack in their locker and head outside for
first recess. It’s a good idea to have 2
pair of gloves/mittens from now on! We
try to put them on the heater between recesses to dry—but it doesn’t always
work.
Please check backpacks nightly for
wet winter clothing!
PLEASE remember shoes!!!!!!!
I have asked the children to
practice getting in and out of their snow gear as fast as they can! The order to get ready is –snow pants, boots,
coat, hat and mittens last so they can zip!
The first day we had snow they did well!! Keep it up!!!!
We will be doing the following for
2 weeks:
READING: How do Dinosaurs go to school? We will
look in to rules at home, school and other places we go.
Sight Word: to, it
Letter: Ii
Vocabulary: cooperate,
rules
Category words: action words
Beanie Baby reading strategy:
Chunky Monkey: Chunky helps us read and write by
using chunks or word families to write or read words we know. (-it, -in, -ip, -ig)
WRITING:
We will write daily in our November
journals.
We will start a new writing
adventure—list, observe and label. We
hope to get a walk to the butterfly garden without snow to see what it looks
like in the fall! We will write an
informational class book on fall.
MATH:
We are learning to write
numbers. We will also be learning how to
represent different numbers (using fingers, ten
or five frames, tally marks, dots, etc.). We are learning to put numbers
in order from smallest to largest using cards.
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
The next
2 weeks we will focus on Stone Soup and Thanksgiving. We will be looking at wants and needs. We will read Thanksgiving/pilgrim books and
talk about wants and needs then and now.
We will
also be watching Eddie Eagle gun safety
and talking about how to stay safe with the opening of deer hunting
coming. Eddie Eagle teacher the children
to
STOP! DON’T TOUCH! LEAVE THE AREA! TELL AN ADULT! if they should find a gun !
STONE SOUP:
The story of Stone soup is everyone
in the community brought an item to make the soup they could all share.
Our class
is bringing 1 –just one, big carrot—we will trade our 21 carrots for an

PS:
Christmas heads up: For our Christmas party the
children do a gift exchange—boys get a boy gift and girls get a girl gift. In the past we have done $3-$5—just thought I’d
toss it out as I know many shop the Friday after Thanksgiving. I’ll have more Christmas details after Thanksgiving.
