STUDENT OF THE WEEK:  Tanner
Tanner is a big brother and a little brother.  He likes to catch bugs, frogs and snakes.  He wants to be a police officer.  Tanner likes to eat apples, pizza and cookies.  His favorite movie is Ghost Busters and favorite books are all about dinosaurs.  His goals are to be a good kindergartener and make lots of friends.

FUN TO BE FIT shirts:
Fun to be fit t-shirt orders are due April 28 if you’d like to purchase a shirt.  All are welcome to purchase a shirt and come to the walk on May 26 in the afternoon.

READING:
This week we will be reading about day and night. 
VOCABULARY:  distance, recognize
CATEGORY WORDS:  opposites
SIGHT WORDS:  Review—We have learned 38!  We will be reading all 51 from now on. 
LETTERS:  Review G, g, J, j, Q, q, U, u, V, v, W, w, X, x, Z, z

WRITING:
We write in our journals every day.  This week we are also writing a letter to Senator Booher.  He asked for students to write him a letter and tell him what they wanted to be when they grow up.  The children are also writing a letter to the incoming kindergarteners to ell them what they liked about Kindergarten.  The letters will be left on the tables at orientation for the parents to read to their child.

TAKE-HOME READING FOLDERS:
We are beginning take-home reading folders soon.  The children will bring a folder home with a school book to read to you and return in for a new book—more information to follow!

MATH: 
Thank you for sending in bottle caps for our class collection!  We are counting and sorting!  We are also practicing addition and counting—by 1’s to 100, 2’s to 30, 5’s and 10’s to 100.  Please help your child practice counting.


SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:

Talking about Earth day and how to take care of our surroundings.
