Remember to get the field trip and Bridges book money in!

If you are helping on the field trip you need a clearance form filled out!  Some have done this already.  I will be going through the list and if you need one I will send it home on Friday!  Appreciate all the volunteers we have coming so far!!!!

Book bags need to come in Friday for a new book to read!

Part of our Math and Science activities we are asking the children to recycle bottle caps—milk, pop, water bottle, etc.  We will be filling a bear jug—counting and adding to it every day they come in!  We are hoping to get enough that we could make an art project to recycle them in to something fun!  Please send in any clean tops you have! J

In the spring I do a fun project that goes in their scrapbook.  It’s a time line—I’ll need a baby picture of your child.  They will be writing what they could do as a baby, what they can do now (I use a picture I have from now) and then they will draw what they will look like as an adult and what career path they will choose!  Please send in a baby picture or email me a picture (melissa.thompson@mcbain.org). If you send in a picture, I will get a copy and return it to you!

READING:
Our big book this week is Bringing Down The Moon
It’s a fun story about a mole that wants to touch the moon.  Ask your child about how he tries! Take a look outside at night with your child and see if they have ideas about the moon!  Look at the sky during the day and night!  Can you find the big or little dipper?
LETTERS:  Review week!
g,g,j.qu,u.v.w.x.y.& z
We are finishing up all our ABC books and they are coming home!!  The children are very excited to share them with you!  I hope you hang on to these and review over the summer the letters and sounds!!

SIGHT WORDS:  Reviewing!  Keep practicing all 51!  The end is coming fast!!!

VOCABULARY:  distance & recognize
CATEGORY WORDS:  opposites
COMPREHENSION:  problem & solution in a story.

I will begin final assessments very soon.  Please continue to read daily as well as practice letters, sounds, sight words, counting and reading numbers.
The Kindergarten goal is reading at or above a level D by June.

WRITING:
We wrote letters to the preschoolers about what we liked about Kindergarten and why!  Our next opinion will be writing to the earth to explain how we think it should be cared for.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
If the rain ever goes away, we will be going outside along the fence to clear out leaves so we can plant sunflower seeds.  We are discussing ways to help our environment.

MATH:
We will be talking about estimating!  We will practice making guesses.  I also will be practicing addition through 10 and subtraction through 5, counting to 100 by 1,5 & 10 and identifying 3D shapes.

I’m going to ask for a little help!  Please remind your child that we still have a few weeks of school to go and excellent behavior is expected at all times!  It’s been a bit crazy lately!
We’ve also been having some messes in the bathroom that should not be happening!

Have a great weekend!  Weather looks to be getting nicer!
Melissa
